As a user with the Advanced Social Search permission, you can search your archived Slack messages, thread replies and attachments on the Social tab, the same way as other social media content. See also How to Search for Social Media Content.

Search for Slack messages

1. Go to the Search section and click the Social tab.
2. Click Choose Account(s) and select your Slack accounts. They're listed under Slack Accounts.

3. In the content type dropdown, keep All Types or select Slack Message. Slack Message covers both channel messages and thread replies.

4. Set the date Range you want to search.
5. Select the field to search:
   • From
   • To
   • Chat Name — the Slack channel name
   • Message Content
   • Attachment
   • Tags
   • Status
   • Notes (not available to Account Admins)
6. Select a condition, for example Contains Phrase or Contains Any, and enter your keywords.
7. Click Search.

Please note that Chat Name isn't available if you also select Facebook, X, Instagram, Mobile or Zoom accounts.

Each result shows the Slack icon, the sender, the date and the message. Channel messages read Message in followed by the channel name, for example Message in [general-info]. Thread replies read just Message.

View a Slack message

Click a result to open it on the right. The header reads SLACK CONVERSATION, followed by the channel name, the number of participants and the date. The message you searched for is highlighted among the other messages in the conversation.

If the result is a thread reply, the header reads Thread in followed by the channel name, and the message that started the thread is shown first, under FIRST MESSAGE IN THREAD.

Edited messages are marked EDITED. Click EDITED next to a message to see each version of it. Deleted messages stay in the archive and are marked DELETED ON followed by the date they were deleted.
