How to Set Custom Roles

As an Account Administrator, or a user with the Create roles, Edit roles and Delete roles permissions, you can create custom roles that decide exactly what each user in your company can do.

Jatheon Cloud comes with four default roles: Account Administrator, API, Compliance Officer and User. You can't change the default roles, but you can create as many custom roles as you need.

Create a custom role

  1. Click your initials in the top right corner and select Company Settings.
  2. Open the Manage Users tab.
  3. Open the Roles section.

Roles section with the default roles and a custom role

The list shows every role, with its Users and Permissions counts. Default roles are marked Default. Click View to see which permissions a default role has.

  1. Click New Role.
  2. Enter a Role Name. It can be up to 30 characters long.
  3. Optionally, enter a Description of up to 200 characters.
  4. To start from the permissions of roles you already have, click Copy from existing Roles and select one or more roles. The new role gets every permission from all of the roles you select.
  5. Under Permissions, turn permissions on or off:
    • Use the switch next to a section, such as Export, to turn all of its permissions on or off at once.
    • Click a section to expand it and turn individual permissions on or off.

Each section shows how many of its permissions are on, for example Export (12/13).

  1. Click Save Changes.

You'll see a confirmation message: User role successfully added. The new role appears in the Roles list.

Please note that a role needs at least one permission. If none are turned on, you'll see Please assign permissions to the user role.

Edit or delete a custom role

To edit a custom role, click Edit in its row, change the name, description or permissions, and click Save Changes. You'll see a confirmation message: User role successfully updated.

To delete a custom role:

  1. Open the More menu (represented with ...) in the role's row.
  2. Select Delete.

More menu with the Delete option

  1. Click Delete to confirm.

You'll see a confirmation message: User role successfully deleted. You can also delete a role from its edit page by clicking Delete Role.

Please note that you can't delete a role while it's assigned to any users. The Delete button stays disabled until you give those users a different role.

Assign a custom role to a user

Once you've created a role, choose it in the Role field when you create or edit a user. See How to Create a New User and How to Edit an Existing User.
