How to Transfer a YouTube Channel from a Personal Gmail Account to Corporate Ownership
When a YouTube channel used for official company communication is owned by a personal Gmail account, it creates risks related to security, ownership, and regulatory compliance. To ensure proper control and enable reliable archiving, it is mandatory to transfer the channel to a corporate-owned Google (Google Workspace) account.
1. Check if the YouTube Channel Is Linked to a Brand Account
Most business channels should be linked to a Brand Account. To verify:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Advanced settings.
- Select Manage YouTube account.
- Check whether the channel is linked to a Brand Account.
2. Add the Corporate Google Workspace Account as an Owner
After confirming the Brand Account, invite the corporate admin:
- Open YouTube Studio → Settings → Permissions.
- Click Invite.
- Enter the corporate Google Workspace email address.
Next, assign the correct role:
The invited corporate account must accept the invitation before ownership can be transferred.
3. Wait at Least 7 Days
Google requires any invited Owner to wait 7 days before they can be promoted to Primary Owner. Ownership transfer cannot be completed until the required waiting period has passed.
4. Transfer Primary Ownership
After the 7–day period, you can promote the corporate Google Workspace account to Primary Owner in the Permissions panel.
5. Temporary 3-Month Support Period
To avoid delays in enabling archiving, Jatheon can temporarily support Gmail-based YouTube ownership for up to 3 months while the customer completes the corporate ownership transfer.
However, transferring the YouTube channel to a corporate-owned account remains mandatory for security and compliance.
