Backup lets you restore files after a disk failure or server problem. Archiving keeps a complete, unalterable and searchable record of your communications, which is what regulations and ediscovery require. Backup alone isn't enough for compliance.
In a backup, files can still be changed or deleted, and backups aren't structured for searching. That makes them a poor source of evidence: you can't easily find a specific message, and you can't prove it wasn't altered.
Jatheon Cloud and Jatheon cCore store data in a write-once-read-many (WORM) format, which protects messages from deletion, alteration and tampering with their content or metadata. Every message is indexed, so you can search the archive in seconds, apply legal holds, set retention policies and export records when you need them.
Many organizations use both: backup for disaster recovery, and an archive for compliance, legal and records requests.
