How to Enable Google Chat Archiving

This article explains how to enable Google Chat archiving in Jatheon Cloud by configuring required settings in both Google Workspace Admin console and Jatheon Cloud.

Prerequisites

  • Google Workspace edition must be one of:
    • Google Workspace Enterprise
    • Google Workspace Enterprise Plus
    • Google Workspace Education Fundamentals
  • Chat history must be turned ON for users, and users should not be allowed to change this setting (uncheck Allow users to change their history settings).

Step 1: Set Google Chat archiving in Google Admin console

  1. In the Admin console, go to Apps → Google Workspace → Google Chat and classic Hangouts.
  2. Click Third-party archiving settings.
  3. Select the organizational unit:
    • Choose a specific OU (department), or
    • Leave the top-level OU selected to archive all users.
  4. Check Archiving enabled.

Step 2: Configure archiving details

  1. In Destination address, enter the journaling address provided by Jatheon Cloud.
  2. Set the Archival frequency (every 1–24 hours).
  3. Under Custom headers, add: X-Jatheon-Mail-Type: Google-Chat
  4. Click Save.

Step 3: Verify in Jatheon Cloud

Confirm that the destination address is configured in Jatheon Cloud to receive Google Chat journal messages. Send a test message and verify it appears in the archive.
